Did I mention my little toddler daughter is in love with Dora the Explorer? I mean she really doesn’t joke with anything Dora. When I had the new baby and she wouldn’t let me attend to her in peace, I had no choice but to find a TV program to distract her while I was busy, so I turned to Dora. Ever since then, it’s been love all the way. She can watch a Dora episode over and over again (thank God for video-on-demand). You should see the way her face lights up when the soundtrack starts.
So we got her this Dora nightie and Dora backpack. My toddler will insist on wearing her nightie during the day and she’s ready to cry for hours if you refuse, so usually I indulge her. I mean why make such a fuss over a trivial thing. I remember when we had a visitor who asked if she was just getting out of bed in the middle of the day! lol! I actually had to hide the nightie cos the winter’s here and it’s kind of light and not appropriate for sleep anymore.
I caught her once rummaging through her wardrobe muttering “Dowa” (she calls her ‘dowa’ cos she can’t talk that well yet. it’s kinds cute). Well, I’m sure you know that for kids ‘out of sight is out of mind’. After a few weeks, she forgot about the nightie.
Anyway, she goes to bed with this her Dora backpack. I mean she holds it in her hand, together with her Minnie mouse plush doll and her favorite story book “Tiger Tales”. All these items have to be in her bed at bedtime or she won’t sleep. Some mornings, she’ld wake up with marks on her face from sleeping on the backpack and I was just telling myself we would probably get her the Dora plush doll so she won’t have to sleep with the backpack anymore. Well, I guess we didn’t have to wait too long because yesterday, we went to the store with her (for something entirely different, I didn’t even remember the doll), and we were at the counter checking out. Next thing I know she’s run over the counter and is at the other side and pointing to a cart beside the cashier. I was still trying to get her back to my side (and of course the cahsier was like ‘kids aren’t allowed on this side of the counter’) but she wouldn’t bulge. It was then I realized there was a Dora plush doll in the cart. I still don’t know how she was able to sight it in the heap of things inside the cart. Apparently, someone had returned. It was like heaven-sent. Of course I had to buy the doll ( I really didn’t have a choice), but I was also glad cos I felt that at least now, she’ld stop sleeping with her Dora backpack and sleep with the doll instead.
Well, guess what? I just tucked her in and she has all 4 items clutched to her! Kids will never cease to amaze me!
